CCoD Background Submission - Sno-dog
« on: January 01, 2012, 04:28:24 PM »
My Submission for the CCoD Background Contest:

Total Build Time: 2 Hours

Summary: Essentially, I used a radiant image as the background with several images of cod4, cod5, and a couple custom map images on top, all of which are fading and blending together. I then overlayed it all with an image of a blue 'bloom' on the right and a yellow 'bloom' on the left. To achieve this bloom effect I used an image (like a space image) and then saturated it and changed the hue to get it to what i wanted and changed it's blending options to achieve the desired effect. I then put the text Modding and Mapping on the sides, added more 'bloom' effects on top of those to give it some nice looking effect, and adjusted the opacity of the text to 80%.

Overall I think it turned out pretty great, I wanted to keep the in-game and radiant images hard to see because in the end you don't want to be distracted in a forum by the background image.

Will upload the PSD soon

I nominate Sno-dog immediately.
Quit sending me these messages asking, "Why won't my mods work on cracked versions?".  It's always the same stupid question.  And it's getting annoying.  If you want an answer, mine is go ask on one of those cracked forums.  Those idiots might just be on the same page as you, and probably just as stupid as you too.

How did you do all of them effects? The fading in-and-out parts, and the characters, the colors? I was told that I apparently

You can do a hell of a lot with photoshop...

I did the fading using a mix of a guassian blur and the erase tool. The effects/colors are other images layered on top with various blending types to make the layers blend differently together (make the colors pop out and what not).

WoooooooW. Hands down, #1. I doubt anybody will out do you. Absolutely fantasic job!

Only 1 issue: It should fade black around the edges so that it blends in with the background.

True, although nerd says not to worry about the black fade in the first thread.
But I still made a quick copy with the black around the edges, just in case.   :)

So either way we could use the black around the edges that's already there or nerd could add in his own.

I could do a good job just using PowerPoint to fade images. But, usually, it's only possible to fade it in between black or white. For a simple background, I'm good at it.

Either way, I am currently way to lazy to make one. And plus, I still haven't even made an original background for my website's forums yet.

Going for free, Gimp is a bit better than paint.net, but Gimp also lacks the raw power of photoshop.
